Bringing Stones to Life

Contact person: Maja Van Der Velden. Email: majava@ifi.uio.no

Our website has just gotten a new template and we haven't had time to adjust the text, etc., but here is a link to our Materials Library of Stones project: https://www.sustainabilitylab.uio.no/projects/summer-projects/material-library.html and to an online site made by four UiO:Energy and Environment summer students: https://kumu.io/sustainabilitylab/digital-minerals-library-x-twin-transition#main

Brief description of the research group

Our small research group is called Technology and Sustainable Futures, and it consists of 7 people. Three of us are working with the Materials Library of Stones, two researchers (Andrea Gasparini and Maja van der Velden) and a PhD candidate (Siv Årsand). The current iteration of the library is developed by the two researchers. They will present the library in March in Künstlerhaus in Stuttgart: https://kuenstlerhaus.de/

Motivation for collaborating with an artist

We want to explore our Materials Library of Stones as a thinkivist art intervention, inspired by https://nordia.journal.fi/article/view/79932 We hope that an artist interested in working in the intersection of activism, art, sustainability, and technology would enable us to create such an intervention.

Examples of activities that the artist can participate in

exhibition(s), conference, seminars, lecture

Work space / time period:

We have the Sustainability Lab that the artist can use for all kinds of activities and that is no accessible to people outside our research group, so a dedicated space. We also have a Design Lab with all kinds of tools and Sonen: https://www.mn.uio.no/ifi/tjenester/publikum/sonen/

Any time.
