Point sets: Dynamics, Sampling, and Operator Algebras

The purpose of this workshop is to bring together communities in dynamical systems, harmonic analysis and operator algebras whose research relates to point sets in Euclidean space and general locally compact groups.

About the workshop

Discrete sets of points in locally compact groups appear naturally in different areas of mathematics. First, for several decades point sets in Euclidean space and their associated dynamical systems have been studied, providing in particular mathematical models for quasicrystals. More recently this theory has been extended to point sets in non-abelian groups and their homogeneous spaces, with the notion of an approximate lattice being particularly influential. Second, from the point of view of harmonic analysis, discrete point sets naturally appear as sets of sampling and/or interpolation in spaces of functions on groups. Third, the dynamics (in particular the groupoids) of point sets give rise to interesting new examples of operator algebras that generalize group operator algebras. The aim of this workshop is to gather researchers who will present recent advances in these fields with the purpose of stimulating cross-fertilization.
