Njord letter 2/2026
Spring has come to and end and summer is finally beginning. The Njordians have been busy with conferences, traveling, publishing, getting their PhDs, and planning events for after summer.
EarthFlows and the Njord Summer party 2026
On the 15th and 16h of June, Njord hosted our conference EarthFlows, where we invited 11 external speakers from different countries, as well as speakers from other departments at UiO, and several of our own young researchers. The conference was a great arena for hearing about each other's work, asking more in depth questions, and discussing with each other during breaks.
After the conference on the 16th, we had our summer party at Toppsenteret and enjoyed the wonderful weather and each other's company.

Elements advances to the Final Round of SFF proposals
The proposal initiative “Element Transport in Earth’s Crust”, in short ELEMENTS, is led by our centre leader Professor François Renard, together with Professor Anders Malthe-Sørenssen.
Supporting the proposal, Renard and Malthe-Sørenssen have a team of colleagues from the Njord Centre consisting of: Luca Menegon, Henrik H. Svensen, Agnes Kiraly, Joanna Dziadkowiec, and Henrik Sveinsson.
ELEMENTS is one of a total of 16 SFF proposals from UiO that are moving forward in the evaluation process for these highly sought-after grants. In the bigger picture, even more applications have been submitted by other research institutions. A total of 36 applicants have been invited to the final round of the application process, according to the Research Council of Norway.

Summer fun
What to do if vacationing in Oslo this summer
Here are some tips on what you can do in Oslo during the summer vacation.
As an employee at UiO, you always have free admission for yourself and two guests to the Historical Museum and the Natural History Museum as long as you show them your UiO employee card.

VisitOslo is a good place to check for tips, suggestions, and different events that are happening around Oslo during the summer.
Volleyball
Njord has purchased a volleyball that is free to use for everyone!
It is located in Tommaso's office, so you can easily grab it and a couple of people to play after work while the weather is nice.
The closest volleyball field is in Marienlystparken.
