Jean-Baptiste writes the following about his stay:

"I am a geologist and metamorphic petrologist with a general interest in lithospheric processes occurring in orogenic systems, including rock deformation at all scales, magmatism and metamorphic processes. I did my PhD at the University of Grenoble in France, where I investigated a portion of Variscan middle and lower crust in order to better understand the interplay between crustal deformation, exhumation of high pressure rocks and emplacement of syn-collisional magmatic series.

I defended in January 2022, and I am now coming to Njord to take part into the BREAK ERC project. During my stay, I will investigate microstructures and measure residual strain in deformed rock samples using 3DXRD as well as other conventional petrographic methods (SEM, EBSD, Polarizing microscope). I will first work on experimentally-deformed samples, and then compare the observations with natural samples from the Lofoten Islands, which present evidence of earthquake rupture. This project will provide better understanding of microstructures and processes related to dynamic rupture and slip at the millimeter to centimeter scale during an earthquake."
