Academic interests
My research interests lie between the intersection of metamorphic petrology and rock deformation, thereby utilizing both broad geological context from field studies in tandem with rock deformation experiments. During my Ph. D. I extensively utilized micro-analytical methods, such as electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and electron microprobe analysis (EMPA), to pair the deformation microstructures of natural rocks to their metamorphic history. My current work, as part of the CONTINENT project, will utilize nanoindentation mapping paired with a variety of electron microscopy techniques to understand how the mechanical properties correspond to dislocation density and other potential lattice defects in individual damaged minerals. I aim to take a mechanistic view of how minerals respond to cyclic, high transient stress associated with earthquake nucleation in the lower crust.
