Andrea visited us in August and September 2024 to investigate the pressure solution phenomenon with the surface force apparatus. Andrea is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Structural Geology and Petrology group at Utrecht University's Earth Science department and she is interested in the fluid-induced deformation of the upper crust, especially at the nanoscale.
Here at NJORD, Andrea worked on a pressure solution of quartz using a surface force apparatus, using nano-milled quartz crystals with features simulating grain boundaries in natural rocks. We are looking forward to the outcomes of this exciting research project very soon!
