We are happy that Hans Jørgen joined the Njord Centre before the summer and will work as a researcher on the Beyond Elasticity project.

Hans Jørgen completed his Ph.D. at the Center for Earth Evolution and Dynamics (CEED), where he had the opportunity to study the evolution of a 600-million-year-old, magma-rich, rifted continental margin preserved within the Scandinavian Caledonides. The deep parts of this margin are remarkably well-preserved, allowing detailed examination of primary contact relationships between sandstones and magmatic intrusions (primarily dykes). A key finding from his Ph.D. research was that the dykes were emplaced near the brittle-ductile transition in the crust, leading to the formation of unusual magmatic structures that challenge the commonly accepted model of dyke emplacement.
These findings are highly relevant to the Beyond Elasticity project which will revisit the Sarek region to study the details of dyke emplacement under the relatively hot conditions and assess the extent to which non-elastic processes contributed to the dyke emplacement. Additionally, similar fieldwork will be conducted in Namibia, focusing on mafic dykes associated with the Etendeka Large Igneous Province, which locally show evidence of melting at the sandstone-dyke contact.
