A portrait of Heng

Before joining Njord, I did my PhD in TU Delft in the Netherlands. I studied how hydrodynamic interactions influence the dynamics of colloidal particles in a suspension, using numerical methods specialized for Stokes flow like Stokesian dynamics and Boundary element method. The application of my project is liquid processing of graphene, which is a thin plate-like nanomaterial made of carbon. I looked at settling of polydisperse particles for the size fractionation of graphene using centrifugation, and buckling of flexible sheets in shear flow to understand how graphene will deform when sheared by liquids.

In Njord, I'll use pore-scale numerical simulations to study fluid mixing and reaction within rocks, how precipitation of minerals changes the porous structure of rocks, and how these porous structure changes influence the transport and reaction within rocks in return.
