A portrait of Shuting

I have a background in rock mechanics and geoscience and am passionate about experimental laboratory research. I began my combined M.S.–Ph.D. program in 2016 at the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where I investigated how temperature, stress disturbances, and discontinuities influence the mechanical behavior and fracture mechanisms of rocks.

From March 2023 to August 2025, I worked as a Humboldt Research Fellow at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences. My research at GFZ focused on hydraulic fracturing and shear processes in crystalline rocks for geothermal energy applications, as well as the characterization of deformation localization using distributed optical fiber sensing.

I am now excited to join Njord as a postdoctoral researcher on the DSTrain project. In this role, I will employ synchrotron X‑ray tomography and image processing techniques to quantitatively characterize the coupling between deformation, permeability, and pore pressure in porous rocks under varying stress conditions.
