Gabriel Meyer

Welcome to Gabriel Meyer, who will work on his project PERCOLATE

Bildet kan inneholde: person, nese, har, hodeplagg, nakke.

I am Gabriel Meyer, a geophysicist specialized in rock deformation, with a particular focus on mid-crustal mechanics. I completed my PhD at University College London, where my research focused on the brittle-to-ductile transition and its effects on fault activation and seismic potential, as well as the progressive evolution of damage through crack nucleation and propagation over time.

Alongside the more fundamental aspects of my work, I have always maintained a strong interest in geothermal energy. During my postdoctoral research at École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland), I refurbished a unique gas-medium triaxial press designed to investigate the mechanical behavior of rocks under hydrothermal conditions. Using this apparatus, I studied fluid flow in rocks at the brittle-to-ductile transition, the next frontier for geothermal energy.

I am excited to join Njord on the PERCOLATE project to push these scientific interests even further by combining advanced rock-deformation experiments with X-ray tomography techniques to investigate the interactions between damage and fluid flow at the brittle-to-ductile transition.

When I am not behind my desk, you will probably find me outdoors, traveling, taking photographs, hiking, skiing, or rock climbing. And when the weather turns bad, I am likely somewhere in a comfortable chair, reading or writing. You can find out more about me on my website: gabrielgmeyer.com

See you around!
