Extended cleanroom capacity

During the course of the spring of 2011, SMN will step into the new network Norwegian Micro- and NanoFabrication Facility (NorFab), together with NTNU, HiVE and SINTEF. This means that there will be more cleanroom facilities at disposal for the research within micro- and nanotechnology.

The research and industry within micro- and nanotechnology require complex equipment and expensive laboratories. The motivation behind the establishment of NorFab is to have a shared laboratory infrastructure that is to be open for users from academia, research institutes and actors in the industry - by providing access to cleanroom facilities. The substantial goal on the agenda is to obtain and maintain state-of-the-art equipment and with this make sure that this infrastructure will be the backbone for activities within micro- and nanotechnology at a national level.

At present, the NorFab network has four nodes: the NanoLab at NTNU, the MSTLab at Vestfold University College and both SINTEF's and UiO's MiNaLab. These facilities represent different research areas, and they make complementary partners both when it comes to competence and equipment. NorFab will in this symbiosis arrange for transparency, so that equipment and competence at each institution become available for all the nodes.
