Academic Interests

I have worked in areas of applied mathematical modelling and statistics. Here, I will like to emphasize a more recent interest inspired by Free and Open Source Software. The underlying voluntary mode of collaboration, outside both the market and public institutions, is now taken up in many areas and generalized under the term Commons-Based Peer Prooduction (CBPP). The study of CBPP encompasses cultural attitudes, business and the market as well as legal and technological issues. It is a challenge to understant the potentials and limitations of this mode of collaboration. It also influences science and how science is carried out, not least within computational life sciences where I am currently heading an initiative at the University of Oslo (see below).
