The International Space Weather Action Team (ISWAT) S2-06, "Origins of the Spectral Irradiance and its Intermediate Timescale Variability" 3rd meeting will be hosted by the Rosseland Centre for Solar Physics (RoCS) at the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics, University of Oslo during the week of 21–25 September 2026.
Introduction
The goal of the team, and therefore the meeting, is to develop physical models of solar active regions that can reproduce a variety of observations, especially the spectral irradiance. This will lead to improved operational models for nowcasting and, eventually, forecasting the spectral irradiance without wavelength gaps.
Topics
The meeting will cover a range of related topics, as outlined in the ISWAT–COSPAR Working Group S2-06 description:
- Assess the current state of modeling of the solar spectral irradiance.
- Identify existing research models that could be used for this purpose.
- Evaluate how the models can be improved and transitioned to operations.
- Determine how the model output depends on assumptions about coronal heating.
- Explore how new knowledge of coronal heating can be incorporated into the models.
