Regular observations of the Sun with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) just started in December. The scientific potential of this new eye on our Sun is described in today's press release published by the ALMA observatory.

The first regular observations of the Sun with ALMA have been carried out in December 2016. The observing program connected to the Solar ALMA ERC project was among the selected programs.

The splinter session "The solar-stellar connection in the era of ALMA", organised by S. Wedemeyer, H.Hudson & T. Bastian, was selected for the Cool Stars 19 meeting, which will be held in Uppsala, Sweden, in June 2016. The aim of this splinter session is to bring together solar and stellar astrophysicists for discussing how ALMA could be used to study the solar-stellar connection. The SolarALMA project will be introduced on this occassion and put into a wider context.

On December 9th, 2015, the ERC officially announced that the CoG grant for the SolarALMA project was selected. The online news page Titan at the University of Oslo spread the news in the following article (in Norwegian):
