Solar atmosphere is filled with a ZOO of waves. I outline very basic principles of MHD wave
theory, present an overview of various types of waves that were recently observed and demonstrate how such observations can be used as a diagnostic tool. This technique, known as MHD seismology is based on using the observations of such waves to derive properties of coronal plasma that are otherwise difficult to measure directly such as magnetic field strength, plasma density or density scale height. I will further present recent advances in our understanding of the mechanisms responsible for excitation and dissipation of waves in the corona and show how they contribute to the overall energy budget of the solar atmosphere.
