Fredagskollokvium: Spacetime and dark matter

Tomi Koivisto, University of Tartu.

Tomi Koivisto, senior research fellow in theoretical physics, University of Tartu.

The problem of time is foundational to quantum gravity. A new approach to this problem treats gravity on par with the standard model gauge theories, and realises the emergence of spacetime through a spontaneous breaking of the Lorentz symmetry.

Remarkably, the symmetry-broken phase gives rise to a metric field, which behaves exactly as in General Relativity supplemented with cold dark matter.
