The mechanism of formation for dynamic type II spicules has remained elusive for many years.

Their dynamical behaviour has been linked to magnetic reconnection for almost 20 years, yet no conclusive evidence has been provided.

In this talk, I will finally close the gap between magnetic reconnection and type II spicule formation, both observationally and theoretically.
I will also show something that has never been seen before in solar physics.
