How should astrophysical research be published?

This will be an interactive colloquium to promote discussion on academic publishing. I will start by giving an insider's view on how A&A works, how much it costs to publish a paper, where the money goes, and who pays for it. We will then discuss the results from our survey and move on to more general trends on publishing.

What is the best way to advance research?

Do we need journals at all?

How do we recognise scientific effort and merit?
