CBA Tuesday talks : Alexander Håland (with lunch)

Every second Tuesday, CBA members gather for lunch and a talk. On May 3rd 2022, the talk will be given by PhD student Alexander Håland about "Trace Gas Emission from Cattle Husbandry".

On May 3rd, Alexander will present his work on 'Trace Gas Emission from Cattle Husbandry'. This time we aim to meet at 11:30 - a bit earlier than our regular seminar time - for mingling and having lunch together. Lunch will be provided! We will meet at the meeting room 2418 in the Kristine Bonnevies hus building. It is also possible to follow his talk on Zoom. This link will be sent via email to CBA members.

Agricultural activities, such as crop- and livestock production, is considered a significant source of greenhouse gases (GHG) and thus has received a lot of public attention over the years. However, what is rarely mentioned is the fact that agriculture is also a source of hundreds of other trace gases, for which many could have a significant impact on the local environment and human health. Despite the potential impact, these trace gases is poorly characterized by the scientific community and subsequently little is found in literature.
Therefore, the Atmospheric Chemistry group in CBA has developed a very sensitive analysis method that allows us to measure hundreds of different trace gases in situ and on a second-by-second bases. This instrument was recently deployed to a near-by farm in a measurement campaign where it captured highly detailed time series of over a hundred different compounds. In this presentation I would like to explain how this method work and show some of the results from the campaign, for which afterward I hope we get a fruitful discussion.
