CBA Tuesday talks : Elin Cecilie Ristorp Aas

Every second Tuesday, CBA members gather for lunch and a talk. On April 5th 2022, the talk will be given by PhD student Elin Cecilie Ristorp Aas. Title: A modeling approach to belowground biogeochemistry

Image may contain: Plant, Terrestrial plant, Tree, Slope, Urban design.

Simple sketch of Elin's soil decomposition process model

This time Elin will present her PhD work at CBA. We will meet at the meeting room 2418 in the Kristine Bonnevies hus building. It is also possible to follow her talk on Zoom. This link will be sent via email to CBA members.

A short description about Elin's research :

We have developed a soil decomposition process model designed to capture and quantify relationships between soil microorganisms and their environment. Our aim with this model is dual:
1) Testing hypotheses with simulations before designing field experiments can help to set up experiments that benefits both understanding of the ecology and improving the model and,

2) Incorporating such a model into an ESM will make it possible to validate the model with observations, and to identify possible climate feedbacks related to the soil dynamics.

I will present simulations from the soil decomposition model and compare them with observations from Strand et al. 2016, and to model results from the standard land model CLM5. I will link the results to possibilities, benefits and challenges related to the two aims.
