CBA researchers recently showed that the warming in the Arctic region is accelerated in the last 40 years based on reanalysis and satellite data. This warming trend causes several chain of events (climate feedbacks) and transfers more CO2 to the atmosphere from thawing permafrost and bog areas. The second study, in collaboration with an international team of researchers, shows that not only the amount of warming is important, but also when it occurs.

The carbon cycle research under a changing climate is an important part for CBA. There are several projects focusing on understanding how these changes occur in cold environments. In order to continue to work on these issues, their potential effects, and how to deal with them, long-term research is needed which requires sustainable funding and long-term investments.
