Near-Term Classical Communication over Quantum Channels and Quantum Error Correction
The talk consists of two parts:
In the first part, we introduce the problem of reliably transmitting classical information over a noisy quantum channel. We then discuss non-additive information measures, such as the Holevo information, which can help us understand the limits on how much classical information can be transmitted through quantum channels. We also present tools relevant to this problem in the context of the near-term, noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) era, with a particular focus on the quantum amplitude damping channel.
The second part focuses on quantum error correction, with the goal of extending the lifespan of quantum states through redundancy. In particular, we examine why quantum low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes are strong candidates for this purpose, highlighting both asymptotically good quantum Tanner codes and practically relevant generalized bicycle codes.
About the qGAP meeting series
Welcome to qGAP, our seminar series on Quantum Physics and Quantum Technology.
The series of seminars/lectures are meant to cover broadly activities at UiO and elsewhere related to quantum physics and technologies, mainly from a theoretical perspective, though we also welcome experimental talks.
We aim at having regular seminars, discussions of recent articles, presentations by master and PhD students and more. We aim for this series to be a combination of research talks and journal clubs.
Educational topics are also most welcome.
Please feel free to suggest speakers, yourself included!
Get in touch with Gunnar Lange to suggest a speaker or if you would like to be included in the mailing list.
All are welcome!
