Life Science - the necessity and challenge of combining ecology, evolution and genomics

CEES Extra seminar by W. Ryan Easterday

Abstract

In biology we stand on the verge of whole genome sequencing becoming an affordable option across all disciplines and budgets. This will and is already creating large amounts of sequence data. In the future, how we coordinate research, integrate and view data will have a large impact on their value as a whole. This being said, what fundamental data are we missing as the genome revolution continues underway? I will be discussing the current state of research in ecology and genomics and how these disciplines will likely eventually be integrated to study evolution; and what we can do right now to be proactive in our data collection.
