CEES/AQUA Extra seminar: Listening to Life: Advancing Conservation Through Bioacoustics

By Dr. Holger Klinck from Cornell University, USA

Abstract

The K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics is at the forefront of a rapidly evolving field that harnesses the sounds of nature to better understand and protect the natural world. In this seminar, I will provide an overview of bioacoustics as a transformative tool in conservation, highlighting methods and case studies from around the globe. I will also discuss the collaborative, interdisciplinary approach we foster at the Yang Center, housed within the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and share insights into how organizational priorities, capacity-building initiatives, and forward-thinking philanthropy sustain and advance our mission. Lastly, I will reflect on how this field is developing and share some directions for the future of conservation bioacoustics—revealing how "listening to life" can inspire innovative science and impactful solutions for protecting our planet.
