From hot springs to crystals; the confessions of a female scientist
Friday seminar by Reidun Sirevåg
The phototrophic anaerobic, green bacteria Chlorobium and Chloroflexus have in common that contain the same types of bacteriochlorophyll, which are located in unique structures called chlorosomes. Apart from these features they have few traits in common and each comprise a separate branch on the phyogenetic tree of the Prokaryotes. This talk will explain the ecology of these to groups and present results from studies of these organisms regarding 1)ancient pathways of carbon dioxide fixation, and 2) the molecular basis of thermostability.
