In the northern tropics of Australia the eastern and western subspecies of long-tailed finch Poephila acuticauda form a zone of hybridisation. For my PhD I will address a number of questions with this system, including studying breeding dynamics within the hybrid zone, asking how sperm and acoustics may be contributing to reproductive isolation, as well as a genomic component. In this talk I will outline our current state of knowledge for this intriguing system and my PhD plans.
