Kevin van Balkom is a Process Engineer working with licensing of formaldehyde technology at the Licensing and Projects department of Dynea AS. Kevin van Balkom holds a degree (MSc.) in chemical engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology with a focus on multi-scale modelling of multiphase flows.

Dynea is a leader in the European wood adhesives market with a broad portfolio of adhesives for the wood processing industries. Dynea licenses the silver catalyst formaldehyde process, both for new formaldehyde plants as well as revamps.

13:30 - Ada Ortiz Carbonell, Expert Analytics AS: "How to transition from academia to industry and not die trying"

Files to download:

Ada Ortiz-Carbonell has a PhD in physics from the University of Barcelona, specialising in solar physics. She has investigated the Sun for 20 years, developing her scientific career in research institutions in Barcelona (Spain), Colorado (USA), Oslo (Norway) and Granada (Spain). While being a Researcher at UiO, she has received funding from the Research Council of Norway to lead research projects, organised seven international conferences, lectured at UiO, and mentored students. Ada is currently a project evaluator for the Spanish Research Council. Her research focus has been on solar irradiance variations, as well as the magnetic fields of the Sun and their dynamics. How do they emerge to the surface and fill the atmosphere of the star? and how they interact with each other leading to explosive and energetic dynamical phenomena?

Since 2019 Ada carries out applied research and data science in Expert Analytics, a small consultancy company in Oslo which focuses on solving complex problems for the industry. She enjoys sharing her experience about the transition from academia to industry for those who want to take that path.

While now in the private sector, Ada continues with her job in the Scientific Advisory Committee of the European Solar Telescope (EST), and dedicates a fair amount of time to outreach activities about the Sun. As part of these activities, she has co-edited and co-authored two books about EST and the Sun, written articles in newspapers, given radio interviews, public talks, participated in 11-F activities, and been nominated as TED speaker.

14:15 - Harish Pruthviraj Jain: "Active reorganisation in tissues"

14:45 - Verónica Suaste Morales: "Bioinformatics Insights into NAD+ Depletion and Cell Death Theories"

15:15 - Pause

15:30 - Mouhammad Abu Rasheed: "Are we able to mimic nature? A study of synthetic Cu-based catalytic systems for C-H activation"

16:00 - Mateusz Wasiluk: "Neural models of gaining and preserving knowledge"

16:30 - Poster session
