Research interest

I am a climate scientist, focusing my research on the role of aerosol particles and clouds in Earth’s climate. I also work on questions related to cloud-climate feedback mechanisms and climate engineering involving aerosols and/or clouds, and on the Earth’s transient and equilibrium climate sensitivity. 

I apply a wide range of tools in my research, including numerical modeling on multiple scales and at different resolutions, and also in situ observations and ground-based and space-borne remote sensing.

Short bio

I received my PhD in Atmospheric Science from University of Oslo in 2006, and thereafter left Norway for a 3-year post doc position at ETH-Zürich. In 2010 I moved to the US and spent the next 8 years as an Assistant/Associate Professor at Yale University. I returned to Norway and took my current position at UiO in January 2018.

During my time in the US, I received a prestigious CAREER award from the National Science Foundation in 2015, as well as a Young Scientist award from the American Meteorological Society in 2017. Since my return to Norway, I received an ERC Starting Grant in 2018 and recently received a Young Researcher award from UiO in 2020.

Beyond my own research activities, I am currently serving as a Coordinating Lead Author for the 6^th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
