LagLivLab

A research and technology laboratory in life science for students of natural sciences and medicine.

LagLivLab is a workshop with advanced equipment for building lab-on-chips, and a laboratory for studying cell biology on those chips with integrated electronic and optical measurement systems. It is also a support and supervision team for self-organised student projects.

LagLivLab is open to students of the natural sciences and medicine. You do not need a project of your own to start with — come to a workshop, see what people are building, and find something you want to work on.

Projects

Microfluidics

Designing and building lab-on-chip devices, and keeping cells alive and observable inside them.

Electrorotation

Measuring the electrical properties of single cells by spinning them in a rotating electric field, and reading their rotational spectra.

Bioactuator

Building a biohybrid that moves under its own power, using muscle cells on an engineered skeleton.

CellMazeRace

Racing cells through microscopic mazes, in the spirit of the Dicty World Races.

The lab

LagLivLab occupies several rooms on the west side of the Physics building. The procedures pages describe what is in each one and how to use it.

  • Giæver lab, V420 — electronics, microscopy and general work
  • Cell lab, V431 — cell culture and passaging; training required before use
  • Microfabrication, V128/129 — photolithography and chip fabrication
  • Workshop, V428 — 3D printing

Collaboration

LagLivLab is made possible by the following collaborators: the Center for organ on a chip technology at the Faculty of Medicine, the Department of Physics, the Department of Biosciences, CHIP, ABINO and ITOM.
