Graduated pharmacists need good communication skills to improve patients’ medicine use. Pharmacy schools play an important role in educating good counselors. Attitudes towards communication skills training may be associated with future counseling behaviors. The main objective of this study was to explore Nordic pharmacy students' attitudes to communication skills learning, and also the associations between these attitudes and various student characteristics.

Researchers at PharmaSafe, Norwegian Institute of Public Health and University of Copenhagen found that Nordic pharmacy students in general have moderately positive attitudes towards learning communication skills. Gender and type of training are among factors associated with positive attitudes towards learning communication skills.  This study provides information for those responsible for curriculum improvements to refine teaching of communication skills. Using these results, teaching can be better tailored to suit different students.
