Research groups

Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety

Our research generates evidence-based knowledge about medications, their utilization, and associated risks in real-world settings, often by using large healthcare databases to investigate drug utilization patterns, treatment outcomes, and adverse drug events. By doing so, we contribute to promoting patient safety, informing regulatory decisions, and optimizing the use of drugs in clinical practice in Norway and beyond.

Pharmaceutics

Development of nano- and microstructured formulations in addition to new formulation technologies for improved functionality in the delivery of drugs.

Research groups

Pharmacology

Our research covers studies in cell biology, physiology, pathology and basic pharmacology of several cells/tissues/organs, towards translational research and clinical pharmacology, including toxicology. Therapeutic drugs are central in the treatment or prevention of most diseases. Our goal is to use research results to the benefit of patients, including better treatments, health, and quality of life.

Pharmaceutical microbiology and immunology

We aim to understand how microorganisms contribute to our health and to the development of disease in a One Health perspective. We study this on an organismic, cellular and at the molecular level. We are interested in how changes and variability in microbial genomes (DNA, RNA) affect cellular and viral processes, including resistance to antimicrobial agents and how this knowledge may contribute to the development of antimicrobial strategies including vaccine and diagnostic tools.

Research groups

Medicinal Chemistry

The group works to identify new drug candidates to be used in possible future treatment of inflammatory diseases. These drug candidates are intended to actively resolve inflammation. Techniques used include synthetic medicinal chemistry and computational science. The group has collaborations with scientists in the United States, England, Germany, and Italy.

Pharmacognosy

BioNatH is the research group of UiO within the field of pharmacognosy. The group works with the isolation, identification and characterization of plant and mushroom metabolites that contribute to health beneficial effects and to study the mechanisms involved.

Pharmaceutical analytical chemistry

Before drugs, endogenous substances and diagnostic proteins can be measured in biological samples, they have to be pretreated and isolated from the original sample. In Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry we focus on development of new and innovative solutions for isolation and sample pretreatment. Highly sustainable concepts within micro-extraction and micro-sampling are developed and applied.
