Meet Our 2024 Summer Interns: Zeenat Chatha and Peter Olteanu

This summer, PharmaSafe was privileged to collaborate with two student interns, Zeenat Chatha and Peter Olteanu. Let's delve into the fantastic work they have done during their time with us.

UiO Life Science Initiative: Nurturing Future Leaders in Research

We are grateful to UiO:Life Science for funding educational summer research projects. Between April and September 2024, UiO:Life Science has supported 50 students, offering them the chance to perform cutting-edge research in health and disease, environmental issues, and other areas related to life sciences. This initiative was open to students currently enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or relevant professional degree program at the University of Oslo. PharmaSafe had the pleasure of hosting two of these summer interns, Zeenat and Peter.

Introducing Zeenat Chatha: Mapping Nordic Varenummer to Standard Vocabulary

"My name is Zeenat Chatha, and I am a Master's student in International Community Health. I am thrilled to join the Pharmacy Department this summer to work on a project titled "Enhancing Multinational Drug Safety Studies - Mapping the Nordic Varenummer (vareNr) to the Standard Vocabulary." This project aims to improve the safety and consistency of drug studies across multiple countries. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to this significant initiative and look forward to collaborating with all of you."

Zeenat's project is a pivotal component in our quest to streamline and harmonize drug safety studies on a multinational scale. Her work involved mapping the unique drug identification numbers used in Nordic countries (Varenummer) to a more universally recognized standard vocabulary. This effort eliminates inconsistencies and improves data quality, making multinational drug studies more reliable and effective.

Introducing Peter Olteanu: Developing a Data Quality Check Dashboard

"The student summer research project I was selected for has the objective of creating a dashboard for Data Quality Checks, that can be used to systematically process the large amount of raw registry data used by the Pharmasafe research group. The project complements perfectly my health economics studies and it has been an amazing learning experience. I feel a great privileage and responsibility to work on this task and work together with researchers of the highest professional caliber." says Peter Olteanu from the EU Master's program in Health Economics, Policy, and Management.

Peter was tasked with developing an innovative dashboard designed to streamline the data quality checks crucial for our research group's use of vast amounts of registry data. This dashboard promises to be a game-changer, offering a systematic approach to data processing that enhances the integrity and usability of the data we rely on. Peter’s experience and perspective as a student of Health Economics, Policy, and Management have been instrumental in shaping this tool, which stands to become an integral part of our research procedures.
