This year marked a special occasion, as the Norwegian Epidemiological Association (NOFE) hosted the combined Nordic Conference of Epidemiology and Register-Based Health Research (NordicEpi) and NorPEN, bringing together epidemiology and pharmacoepidemiology in one rich, collaborative scientific meeting.
From our group, the following members attended:
- Mahmoud Zidan (PhD student)
- Alexis Carson (PhD student)
- Akhila Reddy (PhD student)
- Anteneh Desalegn (Senior Researcher)
- Hedvig Nordeng (Professor/Head of PharmaSafe)
Presentations from our group
Our team contributed to the programme with both oral and poster presentations:
Mahmoud Zidan presented a poster titled
“Uptake of recommended vaccines in women with and without mental health conditions: A population-based study covering pregnancy and older adulthood.
Alexis Carson presented a poster titled
“Antenatal antidepressant exposure and childhood type 1 diabetes: a Nordic population-based cohort study.”
Mahmoud and Alexis also delivered a shared oral presentation together:
“An overview of genetically informed methods to strengthen causal inference in perinatal pharmacoepidemiology.”
Akhila Reddy delivered an oral presentation:
"Prenatal antidepressant exposure and language outcomes in school aged children."
These contributions showcased our group’s efforts to improve causal inference in perinatal pharmacoepidemiology and to understand the safety and effectiveness of medicines in pregnancy and beyond, using large Nordic registry-based datasets.
A Nordic and international meeting point
Set against Tromsø’s arctic landscape and 24-hour daylight, the conference gathered researchers, clinicians, and public health practitioners from across the Nordic countries and beyond. Over three days, participants shared original research in pharmacoepidemiology and other epidemiologic fields, engaged in methodological discussions, and explored opportunities for new collaborations.
Our group enjoyed reconnecting with many of our international colleagues from across the Nordic region, strengthening existing partnerships and initiating new ideas for future joint projects.
We are grateful to the organisers for an inspiring conference and look forward to building on the scientific and collaborative momentum generated in Tromsø.
