The Else-Ragnhild Neumann Award for Women in Geosciences is awarded to a woman who, through her PhD or her work as a postdoctoral fellow, has made a significant contribution to geoscience research.
Nominees should reside in Norway at the time of nomination. The award is named after Else-Ragnhild Neumann, Norway’s first professor of geology, and has been awarded annually since 2018.
The 2025 award
The recipient of the 2025 Else-Ragnhild Neumann Award is Gabrielle Emma Kleber, a researcher at the Department of Geosciences, UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
The jury justifies the award to Kleber as follows:
for her extraordinarily talent and dedication as scientist. She has published 6 papers, 4 of them as 1st author, with one in Nature Geoscience. She seems to be an inquisitive scientist, heavily involved in field campaigns, but also in teaching and outreach. The award committee also acknowledges her previous experience as a trained engineer, and her activity in the Circumnavigators Club Foundation.
