Startups growth and Technical Debt
Accumulating technical debt can be a “good” or a “bad” decision. Startups are prone to incur “bad” technical debt, which can undermine their growth and future success. Technical debt, in brief, is when decisions are made that are better for the short term, but cause problems in the medium and long term.
We are established researchers in the field of technical debt, and we would like to help startups take sound decisions when they transition from the minimum viable product stage to the growth phase.
Technical Debt study
After many studies on benefits and threats of technical debt for startups, we decided to create a tool for self-assessment. Participants, both business or technical, can take the short survey (15 minutes) to become aware of the benefits and threats related to technical debt. The participants get individualized reports where they can compare their practices with other startups.
The survey is anonymous, the registration to obtain individual results is optional, and the data from the survey will not be traceable back to the participants in any way. Only the participants will be able to receive the individualized report.
Some questions that we want to answer are:
- Is the startup repaying the technical debt in time?
- Is the startup’s technical debt preventing business opportunities?
- Does the startup have the right organization to avoid bad technical debt?
