From student to a career

Welcome to an informal event about job opportunities. Get inspired or find exciting job opportunities!

Two young chemists.

Meet the chemists and the speakers: Vetle Øversjøen and Frøydis Sved Skottvoll

We meet in the afternoon after a day with studies. The event starts with short lectures and ends with networking and wraps.

Language: The event is in English.

A full presentation of the speakers is on the Norwegian website.

What is it all about?

The event is an informal meeting place for students to know more about work opportunities. The purpose of the event is to give you as a student an insight into some of the many job opportunities that exist with a degree from the Department of Chemistry.

Program for the 8 th November

We are visited by two people from the Institute of Chemistry and all at work. They talk about their journey until completing their degree at UiO and about the job they have today.

Deadline to register for the event: Thursday the 2nd of November.
Join the event and get some wraps.

Program and presenters

Vetle Øversjøen

Vetle Øversjøen has a masters degree in Materials Science for Energy and nanotechnology, UiO.

About his work as an chief engineer at Justervesenet.

  • He mainly work with development and services within time and frequency measurements. This includes calibration missions for external and internal users, development and continuation of procedures, quality, and measurement infrastructure.

About his masters degree:

  • Growth and characterization of earth abundant II-IV-nitrides for solar cell applications utilizing High-power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering. This work includes material characterization techniques such as X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy w. Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM EDS) and temperature dependant Hall effect measurements to name a few.LENS. .

Frøydis Sved Skottvoll

Frøydis has a Ph.D. in organic analytical chemistry, working with miniaturized LC-MS and online organoid analys.

  • About her work as a scientist at SINTEF.

Frøydis is working on developing micro-nanotechnology (sensors and microsystems) for various applications within health and life sciences. She is the project manager for several projects, including research projects with universities, as well as market-oriented projects with companies and market development of our own ideas (we have a high percentage of startups spinning out of SINTEF).

Frøydis utilize a wide range of subjects from the chemical institute; examples include organic chemistry in the development of biosensors (functionalization of gold), inorganic chemistry related to the production of sensors/microsystems, and analytical chemistry to understand which sensors can be suited for the various applications.

Welcome to join the event

The event is particularly for those who want to know more about job opportunities, build networks and are students:

  • follows the study programme: Chemistry and Biochemistry or Materials Science for Energy and Nanotechnology, or
  • is taking a master's degree or has a PhD in chemistry, materials science for energy and nanotechnology or physics, or
  • is a student at the Department of Life Sciences, or
  • is a student at the Department of Physics
