Hassel Lecture 2026: A stereochemical journey May 21, 2026 3:42 PM
Professor Jérôme Lacour from the Université de Genève visited the Department of Chemistry this week as the Hassel Lecturer, a lecture series held in honour of Nobel laureate Odd Hassel. In two talks, Lacour presented both fundamental and cutting‑edge research in stereochemistry, reactive carbenes, and asymmetric synthesis.

A chemical retrospective as the institute prepares for convergence research environments and the Life Sciences Building Dec. 17, 2025 12:46 PM
The Department of Chemistry made history in 1969 when Odd Hassel was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Together with skilled colleagues he helped develop an electron-diffraction apparatus capable of imaging chemical structures. Since then, the department has nurtured many strong research groups. Now the institute is entering a new phase as it prepares to move into the Life Sciences Building.
