Abstract
I will describe the process one has to go through when applying for en ERC starting grant, as in writing the proposal, preparing the interview lecture, how to get down to Brussels with a minimum of hazzle, and a little about what support systems there are at the University of Oslo. Quite likely to be somewhat embarrasing, I'll also give the 10-minutes presentation I made in Brussels, as an illustration of one possible way of doing it.
The main target audience for this talk is others who may be thinking about applying in the next application rounds, but it should also be interesting to those who have an above-average interest in bureaucratic details.
