Fredagskollokvium: Hsiao-Hsuan Lin: Introduction to the solar equation of state beyond ideal gas law

In many contexts the famous and familiar ideal gas law PV=NkT has been implemented and it serves as an very good approximation. Here I would like to review the role of equation of state in determining solar or stellar structure and why it has to go beyond ideal gas law in the solar case. In order to account for the non-ideality and degeneracy, there are two main approaches addressing this same problem, namely the 'physical picture' approach and the 'chemical picture' approach. The central ideas and basic assumptions from these two point of views will be discussed and finally their results can be compared with observations. At the end, I may be able to show some applications about how can the physical effects emerges from physical picture formalism be implemented in chemical picture formalism.
