My research is in general related to galaxy formation. More specifically I study of the properties of galaxies at redshifts above about 2 corresponding to look back times of 10-13 Gyr. I have long been interested in exploring relations between galaxies at these redshifts selected with different techniques, e.g. quasar absorption line systems, emission-line galaxies, gamma-ray burst host galaxies, etc. After a brief historical introduction I will focus on the use of quasar absorption line systems to explore cosmic chemical evolution and how dust bias plays an important role for that study.
