Fredagskollokvium: Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and the African VLBI Network (AVN) - Current Status and Science Collaboration Opportunities

The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) - to be hosted in parts by South Africa and Australia - will be the largest radio astronomy 
project in the world with unprecedented sensitivity to enable scientists answer some of the perplexing questions about our 
universe and the origin of life. SKA South Africa pathfinder project the MeerKAT is already producing some scientific data and 
results. Along with the MeerKAT, South Africa is also leading the effort to develop African VLBI Network (AVN) with 8 other African 
partner countries. This talk will show the progress report of these ongoing projects and their initial science results. It will also 
highlight some of the opportunities for science collaborations.
