Fredagskollokvium: Planet formation. The roles of pebble accretion, radiative and convective energy transport.

Andrius Popovas, ITA

Now it becomes clear, that most, if not all stars host at least one planet. This means that the mechanisms behind the planet formation have to be very simple and robust. On the other hand, the diversity of planetary systems, as well as their physical and chemical quantities indicate, that the formation and early evolution of planets can be very stochastic. In this talk I will discuss the basic mechanisms, how rocky planets grow in mass and interact with still surrounding protoplanetary disk. Our simulations show, that accretion of small solids -- chondrules -- can be very efficient and is sufficient to grow planets to the observed properties. Furthermore, radiative and convective heat transport is is a very important mechanism and can have a decisive role, whether eventually a planet is rocky with a very thin gas envelope or a gas dwarf.
