The better angels of our nature: Why violence has declined

Speaker: Steven Pinker

Steven Pinker will give the lecture: The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined.

In Steven Pinker's latest book (2011), with the same title, he addresses the history of human violence, and argues that in spite of news headlines that constantly feature violence and war, we actually live in a time that is perhaps the least violent in the existence of our species.

Pinker's lecture will be followed by a panel debate with Vibeke Ottesen (criminologist and PhD student at Oslo University Hospital) and Scott Gates (Director, Centre for the Study of Civil War, PRIO (CSCW); Professor, Political Science, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)).

After the lecture all are welcome to attend the Grand Opening of the Science Library in Vilhelm Bjerknes hus.

Co-organised with The Science Library, The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and CSCW - Centre for the Study of Civil War (PRIO).
