"Exploring the Deep Frontier"
Abstract: More has been learned about the nature of life in the sea in the past century than during all preceding history, and the pace is picking up. At the same time, more dramatic changes have taken place owing to human activities that have altered the chemistry and composition of marine ecosystems. New technologies will be described that provide unprecedented access - and insight - into the nature of the ocean, into changes taking place, and to the consequences that affect the future of humankind.
Bio: Sylvia Alice Earle (born August 30, 1935) is an American marine biologist, explorer, author, and lecturer. She has been a National Geographic explorer-in-residence since 1998. Earle was the first female chief scientist of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and was named by Time Magazine as its first Hero for the Planet in 1998. Source: Wikipedia.
