Background

I am an evolutionary biologist, with a background in population genetics, molecular biology, mycology and microbiology. My focus is on investigating hybridisation and its role in adaptation to climate change, as well as speciation, using the wood decaying fungi Trichaptum abietinum. For this research, I plan to use a combination of molecular biology and population genomics techniques, as well as carry out fieldwork in several European countries including my home country of Scotland.

Most recently (2023-2025) I have been a postdoctoral researcher at UmeƄ University in Northern Sweden, where I used experimental evolution, molecular biology and nanopore sequencing to investigate how bacteria evolve multidrug resistance. Prior to this (2017-2023), I received a PhD in Population Genetics from Stockholm University in Sweden, during which I used experimental evolution on populations of Baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) to uncover the role of hybridisation in adaptation to changing conditions. I have also received a MSc in Biology from Gothenburg University in Sweden (2015-2017) and a BSc (hons) in Genetics from the University of Glasgow in Scotland (2010-2014).
