Academic Interests

My research interests are in the taxonomy, diversity and biogeography of marine microalgae and protists living in the plankton and benthos (eg. sandy beaches). My work includes the description of several species new to science. I use light and electron microscopy to reveal their microanatomy and identity. Recently, I have started working with molecular techniques such as QPCR (Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction) and barcoding.
