AQUA seminar 3. March 2020

Spawning migration of marine fish: cod and haddock as examples

by Øystein Langangen

Room 4424, 3. March  at 12.15

In my talk, I will focus on variations in spawning ground use of fish between years and potential drivers of such variation.  As examples I will use two fish populations in the Barents Sea: the Northeast Arctic cod and haddock. Furthermore, I will focus on trade-offs associated with the spawning migration. Such spawning migration can be demanding, both with respect to energy use for swimming and with the time spent away from the feeding grounds. Such costs must be balanced by some benefit, such as increased survival and/or growth of the offspring.
