Assoc. Prof. Yannis Papastamatiou (Florida International University):
How do fish use energy landscapes (dolphinfish and grey reef sharks)?
An Animal's energy landscape represents the power costs to move within and
through habitats and can help explain animal habitat selection and movement
paths. First, I will show how the energy landscape helps modulate the dive depth in
a pelagic predator, the dolphinfish.
Dr. Eva B. Thorstad (NINA):
Help - it is pink salmon-year again!
Pink salmon are native to the Pacific region but have spread to the
North Atlantic after intentional translocations to northwest Russia.
The abundance has increased exponentially, and many rivers in
Northern Norway now receive thousands of adult pink salmon. Due to
their strict two-year life cycle, they mainly occur in odd years. Latest
news on their spread, potential impacts on local salmonids and
ecosystems, and the massive eradication efforts planned for 2025 to
prevent further spread, will be presented.
