"Single-cell leukocyte dynamics: from cell biology to translational research"

Pablo Vargas (Group Leader, Institut Necker Enfants-Malades, Faculté de Médecine Necker, Paris, France)

The immune response is a paradigm of the physiological significance of cell migration. It is required for the success of both the innate and adaptive immune responses by being essential for tissue patrolling, pathogen clearance, antigen transport to lymph nodes, cell-cell encounter and effector responses. However, the cellular mechanisms that allow cells to bypass the physical barriers imposed by tissues is not yet clear. In this seminar, I will describe specific mechanisms present in immune cells that facilitate their migration in very confined microenvironments, discuss about the physiological relevance of these discoveries and how this can accelerate research in immune disorders.
