Research interests
Tor is interested in the relationship between the richness of phenomena and the necessarily partial ways in which we make sense of them. His research explores what this means for technology, organising, and strategy.
Taking a practice-based approach and relational perspective, he prefers to immerse himself in the field and fringes of emerging technologies and cultures with special attention to "relationships and connections that had not previously been suspected, relationships that change actions and perspectives" (Weick, 1989).
Tor's doctoral research examines how relationships between humans and algorithms evolve as AI becomes part of organisational work. This research has received Best Paper awards with both the Journal of Strategic Information Systems and the Association of Information Systems.
Teaching
Since 2010, Tor has combined emerging phenomena in the field with interdisciplinary theory to teach creative and strategic problem-solving in entrepreneurial settings.
He currently teaches a master's-level course on ideation and new ventures with the Norwegian School of Entrepreneurship programme and contributes to continuing education in technology and innovation management. He also regularly teaches executive classes on topics including strategic leadership, in collaboration with BI Norwegian Business School and others.
His work on business model innovation and value propositions has been recognised and adapted by universities including Harvard Business School, INSEAD, UC Berkeley, and Stanford University.
